I am just back from a few days away, and as usual, after unloading the car, I head straight for the garden. As I bend down to the soil to root out those weeds, the smell of the earth and the chattering birds in in the trees above, soothe my soul, washing away the hubbub of the day. Time stands still momentarily and the simple task of weeding puts me back in touch with nature’s rhythms.
I have been pondering on “the sense of belonging” (in human terms) and it then occured to me that this goes for gardens too, obviously “Right Plant, Right Place” but also how the garden should belong to the landscape within which it sits.
